“They only Live, who Live for Others…”
The God Almighty has blessed us with lot of bounties, better than a lot many if we look upon our Nation. This realisation motivated a few of our colleagues to come together and make an effort to return a little back to the society in one form or another. Though the efforts have been small yet we have been able to do them consistently over past more than 20 years.
First thing that came to our mind was Blood Donation and we started holding the Blood Donation Camps in 2001. Around that time, we came across a Govt. School in Mataur (Sector 70, Mohali) where mainly, the children from poor families were studying and we decided to provide Notebooks, etc. as many of them were not able to pay the little amount of School Fees itself. Later, we observed that many of the students were not able to purchase Uniform Sweaters and we started providing the Sweaters to such students, which we are still continuing every winters, bringing a lot of succor to such needy children. We also helped the School to set up a Computer Lab by providing the PCs which was very helpful for students to learn hands on.
In addition, there were many requirements to improve the infrastructure of the School, so that proper amenities are available to the Teachers as well as the Students. In this exercise, School Benches, Almirahs, Book-shelfs, Fans, Tubelights, Rugs, Mats, etc. were provided.
In 2021, we suggested to the School Principal to provide separate space for the Library which they agreed and we helped in setting up a small Library, by providing Book-shelfs, Racks and many Books on varied topics, viz. Religious, Cultural, Freedom Struggle, Self Improvement, Biographies of Great Personalities, etc. We requested the School Principal and the Teachers to share the synopsis of 1 book everyday with the students in the School Assembly or in the Class, thus making them aware about the Books and develop their interest in reading Books.
We have also started honouring the students, who excel in Studies as well as Sports & other Extra-curricular Activities, viz. Drawing, Painting, Rangoli, Diya Making, Essay Writing, etc. in the Annual Function (Diwali Utsav), thus trying to motivate the children to come forward, aspire and reach pinnacle of their capabilities, bringing very good results.
It really pleases the heart with immense satisfaction to see commendable performances of the students, overcoming various social impediments and hardships being faced by them.
